USA Track & Field Junior National Championships

Richmond Sports Backer Stadium, Richmond, VA
June 16-17, 2001

The 29th edition of USATF's Junior National Championships, part of the Verizon Youth Series, is scheduled for June 16-17 in Richmond, VA, and will follow in the great tradition of previous championships in selecting the team to represent the United States in international competition.

Junior Nationals is for athletes ages 14-19. It annually attracts 800-900 of the sport's best. The list of former participants reads like a Who's Who of American track and field greats - Marion Jones, Terrence Trammell, Adam Nelson, Suzy Favor Hamilton, Alvin and Calvin Harrison, Carl Lewis and Jackie Joyner-Kersee - just to name a few.

Participants must meet a qualifying standard in their event and be prepared to face some of the stiffest competition in the world. Verizon All-American certificates and T-shirts are given to the top eight finishers in each event, and adidas championship medals will be awarded to the top six finishers.

This year's edition of the Junior Nationals will serve as the selection meet for the Junior Pan American Championships, October 18-20 in Santa Fe, Argentina. International competition will also include a dual meet with Great Britain, August 18. Next year's Junior Championships will serve as the selection meet for the World Junior Championships in Jamaica.
